Khachaturian International Youth Music Competition Concludes in Beijing
The 2024 Khachaturian International Youth Music Competition concluded on November 10 at the China National Opera House in Beijing.
That evening, Sergey Smbatyan, Music Director of the Khachaturian International Competition, conducted the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra with prizewinning contestants, presenting a closing concert of classical works for the audience.
The competition opened its global preliminary stage in August at the Galaxy International Convention Center in Macao. After a week of competition, more than 300 young musicians from around the world advanced to the Beijing global round.
The Beijing stage opened at the China National Opera House on November 1. Over 10 days, contestants competed in piano, violin, and cello. The awards ceremony on November 10 announced winners across all groups.
The competition provided an international platform for young musicians, promoted music education, and supported cultural exchange through performance.
To broaden the artistic content, the organizing committee included required Chinese works in the repertoire and established the Best Performance of a Chinese Work Award. An Audience Prize was also created to recognize public support and encourage broader participation in music education.
