19th Khachaturian International Violin Competition Opens in Beijing

The 19th Khachaturian International Violin Competition opened on the evening of December 17 at the China National Opera House in Beijing, in a year that marked the 120th anniversary of Aram Khachaturian's birth.

Seventeen violinists from more than 10 countries drew their performance order on site and began a 10-day global final in Beijing, competing for the final rankings while presenting the talent and passion of young violinists from around the world.

At the opening concert, the Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Chen Lin and joined by Chinese violinist Tianwa Yang and competition jury member Jarosław Nadrzycki, offering audiences a close encounter with international-level classical performance.

Liu Yunzhi, President of the China National Opera House and Co-Chair of the Jury, said the Khachaturian Violin Competition is an international event with broad global influence, and that bringing it to China is significant for the development of the country's violin community.

The competition was officially launched in Shijingshan District on July 12, 2023. A China preliminary round was held from October 6 to 8 at the Shijingshan Cultural Center, where 24 contestants competed for advancement.

Around the competition, Shijingshan integrated concerts, lectures, book-sharing activities, cultural tourism promotion, and visits to sites such as Shougang Park, Moshikou Historical and Cultural Area, and Chengen Temple, connecting music with urban cultural life.

Yin Yuan, Deputy District Mayor of Shijingshan, noted that hosting the international event supports Beijing's role as a national cultural center and helps strengthen the district's international cultural exchange and tourism brand.
