In 2023, the year marking the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, the 19th Khachaturian International Music Competition for violin was announced as an important cultural exchange project between China and countries along the Belt and Road.

Hosted by the Shijingshan District People's Government and the Aram Khachaturian Cultural Foundation, the competition was scheduled to take place from December 17 to 28, 2023. It would be the first edition of the competition held outside Armenia in its 20-year history.

The Khachaturian competition is known among international competitions for its demanding repertoire, high difficulty, and intense schedule. It gathers leading jury members, performers, conductors, and composers, making it an important international classical music event.

Guests including Yin Yuan, Deputy District Mayor of Shijingshan, and Liu Yunzhi, President of the China National Opera House, attended the launch ceremony.

According to the organizers, the competition would invite internationally renowned conductors to participate throughout the event and would be broadcast globally. Through selection rounds, 36 outstanding violinists from around the world were expected to enter the Beijing final.

The introduction of the 19th Khachaturian International Violin Competition to Shijingshan was described as a high-level international exchange platform and an important step in deepening cultural and tourism cooperation with Belt and Road countries and regions.
